If you are new to church, we want to extend a warm welcome to you. We understand that attending a church for the first time can be overwhelming, so we hope the following information will put your mind at ease.

Our services typically last about an hour or so and will normally follow this format:

  • Welcome
  • Hymn
  • Bible reading
  • Children’s talk (morning service)
  • Hymn
  • Prayer
  • Hymn
  • Sermon (or Creche and Junior Church for the children – morning service)
  • Hymn
  • Closing prayer

Seating

Please feel free to sit wherever you are most comfortable. In the morning we have tables around the sides which are often used by families.

Hymns

A hymn is a song of praise to God. We typically sing four of these throughout the service to praise God for who he is and what he has done for us. We usually stand while singing, but please don’t worry if you prefer to sit or cannot stand. If you don’t know the hymns or don’t feel like singing, it’s okay to remain silent and just listen. The hymns are shown on a screen but there are also hymn books available.

Bible readings

The Bible is read by someone at the front during our services and we will use the version called the New King James Version. Copies of this are available if you wish to follow along, or you’re welcome to just listen.

Prayer

Prayer is simply us talking to God. During the service, someone will lead in prayer out loud, and the congregation may close their eyes to help focus on the prayer. At the end of a prayer, we say “Amen” to signify agreement, but you are not required to say it if you don’t feel comfortable.

Children’s talk

During the morning service we have a short time where someone will give a Bible message specifically for children, but adults may find it helpful too. The children will often go up to the front to listen to the message, but they are equally welcome to listen from their seats with their parents.

Creche and Junior Church

We offer a creche for ages 0-4 and junior church for ages 5-11 during the sermon. Our trained volunteers who are all DBS-certified volunteers lead the children in a short Bible story and activity, followed by fun activities tailored to each group.

Sermon

The person at the front, normally our pastor, will give a talk, called a sermon. This normally lasts about 30 minutes during which we sit quietly to listen. With God’s help, our pastor explains different parts of the Bible.

Offering (or donation)

We do not take an offering during the service, but there is a box near the entrance if you would like to contribute.

Toilets

There are toilets that are available throughout the service and afterwards, please follow the signs.

What if I’m late?

Please come in quietly but don’t be embarrassed, we’re glad to see you whatever time you arrive!

Please make sure your mobile phone is on silent during the service to avoid any embarrassment.

After the service there are refreshments available. There is no charge for these and  we would encourage you to stay and make some new friends!

We hope this information has given you a better idea of what to expect at our church and made you feel more comfortable about attending. You can also get more of a feel for our services by watching some of them online. We look forward to seeing you!
